Warhammer 40,000 Darktide delayed to next year

There are no co-op shooters in the dark and gloomy 2022.

Warhammer 40000: Darktide’s grimdark cooperative shooting will have to wait as developer Fatshark has moved the game’s release forward to 2022.

Initial plans were for a release in the second half of this year. Fatshark broke the news today that Covid-19 had delayed a videogame release. Darktide will instead release “early next years”, with plans for extra time to finish the game and prepare for future content.

Martin Wahlund, CEO Fatshark, wrote that “We have a responsibility for delivering the best game possible and frankly we need to take more time to achieve this goal.” It is not secret that building a game in the midst of a pandemic can be difficult. We aren’t immune to it.

Darktide, based on their work on Vermintide 2, hopes to give Warhammer 40,000 that same great co-op shooter treatment. The game’s story has been overseen by Dan Abnett , a prolific 40K writer. If Vermintide 2’s long tail is any indication, we can expect to storm through Hive Tertium for quite some time yet.
