“Our chances of winning are quite high” in the legislative elections of June 12 and 19, said Jean-Luc Mélenchon at a meeting of the New Popular Ecological and Social Union (Nupes) on Wednesday evening in Paris.

LFI, EELV, PS, PCF, Générations, “we have come together to tell the country, We are an alternative if you have understood that it can no longer last as it is”, declared the tribune on the stage of the Olympe room in Gouges.

Behind him were gathered several of the candidates of the Nupes in the capital, including the head of EELV Julien Bayou, the finalist of the environmental primary Sandrine Rousseau, the communication director of his campaign Sophia Chikirou or the antispecist Aymeric Caron.

“What we are carrying is another vision of the world and of society. I am not telling you that overnight we will create a paradise, but we will put an end to hell”, chanted Jean-Luc Mélenchon, highly acclaimed by the 1,500 people announced by LFI both inside and outside the hall.

School and hospital in difficulty, rising poverty, “climate inaction” and even “to ensure the tranquility of a football match”: “the state is collapsing around us”, he sighed.

But he wants to increase public spending by 250 billion, and recover 270 billion in revenue thanks to the lever that this is supposed to activate. “Since when is money an obstacle when you are the public power?” Questioned, bravado, Mr. Mélenchon.

The former presidential candidate (22%) estimated: “Our chances of winning are quite high”. Polls give LREM and its allies and Nupes neck and neck around 28% of voting intentions. In number of deputies, the Nupes would become according to projections the second formation in the National Assembly with between 165 and 195 seats.

“If people think we can win, they will go down to vote by package, by cluster, by wagons”, warned Jean-Luc Mélenchon, arousing “We will win” from the room.

A few minutes earlier, Julien Bayou was also delighted: “We are united and stronger than ever. We are much better here than in the camp opposite, they are stressed because they are not campaigning”.

Sophia Chikirou for her part hit hard on the persistence of several figures in the government: “We do not change a team of losers. Five years of repression, police beatings, and finally a medal for Darmanin”.
