Swiatek hadn’t lost a game since her second-round elimination in Dubai in February and had won all six tournaments she’d played since: Doha, Indian Wells and Miami on hard courts, Stuttgart, Rome and Roland-Garros on clay . The 32-year-old Frenchwoman will face Australian Ajla Tomljanovic (44th) in the round of 16, winner of Czech Barbora Krejcikova (13th).
“I don’t have the words… It reminds me of my victory against Serena (Williams) eight years ago on this same No. 1 court which brings me luck,” the 32-year-old Frenchwoman commented hotly. “I knew I could do it. Because if there was a time to beat her, I knew it was on grass,” added Cornet, who reached the knockout stages of the Major on grass in 2014 beating Serena Williams. But since then she had not passed the third round.
His best Grand Slam result is a quarter-final, achieved in January at the Australian Open. To do at least as well, she will face in the 8th on the London lawn the Australian Ajla Tomljanovic (44th), winner of the Czech Barbora Krejcikova (13th).
