The majority “takes seriously” the dynamics of Jean-Luc Mélenchon’s New Popular Ecological and Social Union (Nupes), because it is the only “strong and credible” opposition, and the choice to be made in the legislative elections will be between these two forces, said LREM MP Aurore Bergé on Thursday.

“We take (the dynamics of Nupes, editor’s note) seriously because, both in the media, both in the polls, the only one who exists today, apart from the presidential majority, is Jean Luc Mélenchon” , explained on France 2 the deputy president of the LREM group in the National Assembly.

“There is no other opposition today that has a strong and credible political existence”, estimated the deputy of Yvelines for whom “on these legislative elections, there is a very clear, political choice, that the French will do: do they want a majority for the President of the Republic or do they want a majority for Jean-Luc Mélenchon?”.

“These are two political projects, two social projects, two institutional projects, two projects on economic issues that are radically different,” she pointed out.

The candidates of the Ensemble! electoral confederation, which brings together LREM, Modem, Horizons and Agir, would come out on top in terms of the number of seats for the legislative elections, without however being certain of winning an absolute majority in the National Assembly, according to projections by an Ifop-Fiducial poll for LCI released on Tuesday.

Candidates Together! would thus obtain from 275 to 310 seats, against 170 to 205 for the Nupes, an electoral alliance associating LFI, EELV, the PC and the PS.

“Our chances of winning are quite high” in the legislative elections of June 12 and 19, assured Jean-Luc Mélenchon at a meeting on Wednesday evening in Paris.

For several days, the majority has clearly targeted the leader of LFI, the Minister of the Economy Bruno Le Maire even comparing him to a “Gallic Chavez”.

“I take it as a joke and I tell myself that if Jean-Luc Mélenchon is so much the target of the government and the presidential majority, it is because obviously there is a concern that is beginning to emerge on the side of Emmanuel Macron and his support for the results of the legislative elections”, rejoiced LFI MEP Manuel Bompard on Wednesday on franceinfo.
