Presented iPadOS 14: with smart search and easy input by hand

Apple announced a new version iPadOS – operating system for iPad. The update was shown at the conference for developers Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), which this year because of the pandemic coronavirus infection COVID-19 is first held in an online format.

First of all, as presented today iOS 14 for iPhone, iPadOS 14 also will receive the support of widgets. New interface elements can be downloaded from the gallery and placed next to the usual icons of the applications, said the Apple engineer Josh Shaffer.

an Update will borrow from sister of OSes and a lot of other functions, including group iMessage (“Messages”), mini App App Clips with reduced functionality (for example, to quickly make buying or rent a bike), bike routes in Apple Maps and replenishment of the collection Memoji – Emoji animated.

Brand new in iPadOS 14 will be the completely redesigned “smart” search box for Universal Search, which draws together the tablet platform c computer macOS (where it is called Spotlight). It combines the functions of search and launcher apps, allowing you to search for contacts, documents and even files inside programs (if available). Call Universal Search from anywhere iPad 14 without leaving the active application.

was significantly improved handwriting input with the stylus Apple Pencil. New function Scribble (by hand) will allow you to convert text written by hand in English or Chinese language, in print, and then copy and paste it into any text field.

But if the user write a phone number or address, Scribble will automatically turn them into links which will call or get directions. “Processing and conversion of handwritten text is performed directly on the device, and thus protects and maintains the confidentiality of the data,” the company said. When and which other languages will be compatible Scribble, is not specified.

Worked in iPadOS 14 and on the interface – the benefits of a large screen tablet are now used more efficiently. In the “Photo” and “Music” appeared the sidebar to quickly switch between sections, “Calendar” was added to more controls at the top of the screen.

in Addition, iPadOS 14 will be allowed to change the mail client and browser that are used by default. In the current version of the OS, for example, all links open only in Safari and mail responsible Mail (“Mail”). To change mail clients, e.g. Gmail or Outlook, or you can choose Chrome as your primary browser, you may not.

access to the beta version iPadOS 14 have only the developers. All users of the new version will be available in the fall. To install it will be on the iPad Air 2 or newer, all models of iPad Pro, iPad 5th generation or later and iPad mini 4 or later.
