“You can’t have Banana Republic mores”: the Nupes on Monday started a new battle against the Ministry of the Interior, accusing it of “tampering” for not having correctly added up all the votes due to it on the first turn of the legislative.

“It is clear that there is a doubt about what Darmanin is doing with the results. Everyone understands that they are bad losers. We cannot have the morals of the Banana Republic”, fumed Jean-Luc Mélenchon Monday in front of the headquarters of LFI, directly targeting the Minister of the Interior Gérald Darmanin.

At the ministry, they say they stick to the lists of declared candidates. As for the boss of the LREM deputies Christophe Castaner, he denounces a “conspiracy theory” of the Insoumis.

This game in the game between the outgoing majority and the left united under the banner of Nupes fuels tensions between the two camps in the run-up to the second round on Sunday.

According to the official results, the Macronist coalition Together! beat Nupes in the first round by just over 21,000 votes, out of 23.3 million voters, with 25.75% of the vote (5,857,558 votes), against 25.66% for Nupes (5,836. 202).

But in a nocturnal tweet, Manuel Bompard, Nupes candidate in the Bouches-du-Rhône, argued that “the Nupes achieves 6,101,968 votes (or 26.8%)”, accusing the Ministry of the Interior of him. assign less “to artificially make Macron’s party appear in the lead”.

“Tampering”, strangled the number two of LFI Adrien Quatennens.

“Hello the Council of State?”, Launched Mr. Bompard, six days after a decision by the institution which, seized by LFI in summary proceedings, had ordered Gérald Darmanin to take into consideration the Nupes as “a political nuance apart whole” during the ballot.

According to the count made by AFP, Nupes comes first with 5,880,605 votes, or 25.85% of the vote, or 19,812 votes more than Together! (5,860,793 votes).

The discrepancy with the figures of the ministry is explained by the fact that AFP takes into account under the nuance Nupes the some 44,400 votes collected by three candidates: Hervé Saulignac (1st district of Ardèche), Dominique Potier (5th of Meurthe-et-Moselle) and Joël Aviragnet (8th in Haute-Garonne).

All three had been invested by the PS as part of the Nupes.

But a sign of the complexity of the situation, Dominique Potier told AFP on Monday that he was not a Nupes candidate, but DVG, even if the Nupes did not present a candidate against him, and that he could if elected, to sit with the Socialist and Related Group.

Asked by AFP, the ministry explains that it “recognized as Various Left” these three candidates “initially invested by Nupes” but then “declared that it wanted to give up this nomination” Nupes.

The ministry also argues that the situation is the same for the presidential majority, for example for the minister “Damien Abad, who can legitimately be thought to be supported by Ensemble”, and who “is counted in Divers right”.

The ministry also stresses that “no overseas candidate appeared” in the “yet very complete list” of “all the candidates to whom it will be appropriate to attribute the Nupes nuance” sent by the Nupes campaign management. to the ministry on June 8.

Thus certain candidates from Corsica and Overseas, territories outside the national Nupes agreement, have not been counted, such as Karine Le Bon in the 2nd constituency of Reunion and the outgoing deputy Insoumis Hugues Ratenon in the 5th.

According to LFI, they nevertheless campaigned for Nupes.

In a press release, LFI calls on the media to set up “their own accounts”, and promises “a real independent electoral authority” if the Nupes has a majority in the legislative elections.

“It’s not a game, it’s just our democracy”, argued Mr. Mélenchon, saying he had “always trusted” in the authorities “but now we have a big doubt”.

For Christophe Castaner, Manuel Bompard “talks about people they support now when they did not support them two days ago”.

A comment deemed “incredible” by the candidate Nupes who, in a new tweet, criticized the LREM deputy for “qualifying as conspirators those who just demand an exact presentation of the results”.
