“It is not up to the president to lead the legislative campaign”, declared Jean-Luc Mélenchon on Thursday in response to Emmanuel Macron’s speech in the Tarn, regretting “all kinds of unnecessary aggression” reflecting a “febrility” .

Emmanuel Macron on Thursday lambasted the “extreme” who “propose to add crisis to the crisis by returning to the great historical choices of our Nation”, asking the French to grant him “a strong and clear majority” in the legislative elections.

Jean-Luc Mélenchon, from the headquarters of LFI, an hour later “denounced the treatment to which our democracy is subjected”: “It is not up to the President of the Republic to lead the legislative campaign that his friends are unable to lead, it’s up to the head of government.”

The tribune insisted: “The role of the head of state is not to come to the rescue of the raft of the jellyfish”.

Because in his eyes, Emmanuel Macron, by inaugurating the day before a dojo in Seine-Saint-Denis and by devoting a trip to security in rural areas on Thursday, made “pretext outings”.

Jean-Luc Mélenchon also reacted to the reproaches of the president, who declared that he could not “accept” that “we insult” the gendarmes and police, after the controversy caused by the words of the Insoumis on “the police who kills”.

He retorted: “Nobody insulted the police but I took the responsibility, with others, to denounce a doctrine of use (of force) which led to the violence at the Stade de France, to the brutalization of passengers at the Gare de l’Est, and which has caused four deaths in four months for refusing to comply, an absolute sign of failure”.

But “I was reassured because he was good enough to conclude his speech by expressing a demand for respect for the ethical rules” of the police, noted Jean-Luc Mélenchon.

Nevertheless, he warned the president: “It is extremely serious to accuse his opponents of weakening the unity of the country”, as he did without naming Mr. Mélenchon or Marine Le Pen. “Democracy does not weaken the unity of the country, the opposition opposes,” he added.

The unfortunate former presidential candidate demanded that on Sunday “the country give the President of the Republic the disavowal he deserves” by voting for the Nupes candidates.

The coalition threatens, in several polls, the possibility for the presidential camp to obtain an absolute majority in the National Assembly. And Jean-Luc Mélenchon even hopes to win the majority and be appointed Prime Minister.
