The secretary general of the CFDT, Laurent Berger, calls on Tuesday for the “responsibility of all parliamentarians so that they place themselves in a logic of building solutions”, while Parliament could be blocked for lack of a majority.

“The role of a deputy is to build solutions for the population, it is to represent the nation, the French people,” said Mr. Berger in an interview with L’Opinion.

“I appeal to the responsibility of all parliamentarians so that they place themselves in a logic of building solutions, not in partisan games”, he continues.

For Mr. Berger, re-elected head of the CFDT last week, “Parliament is neither a boxing ring nor a platform. It must take into account the difficulties of French society”.

“It’s not up to me to say whether this or that coalition is necessary, but everyone must exercise their responsibilities. If the political theater becomes an exclusive place of confrontation, we will pay a high price for it”, he warns, while the executive seeks with which deputies to cooperate in order to avoid a blockage of the institutions.

Laurent Berger also reiterates his support for the idea of a National Council for Refoundation, supported by the President of the Republic but whose first meeting, scheduled for Wednesday, has been postponed given the political context.

“I understand that the first meeting has been postponed, but we must not abandon the idea. Part of the solutions must be found with the living forces of the nation, more than ever,” he pleaded.
