On Sunday June 26, the French won gold and the French bronze at the 3×3 world basketball championship in Antwerp, Belgium. Les Bleues beat the Canadians (16-13) at the end of a final which they largely dominated, in particular thanks to the success in shooting of Myriam Djekoundade, to win the first title of world champions in their history. It is a consecration for this team which had never climbed higher than on the third step of the podium.

Incidentally, the French took their revenge in the semi-finals (17-16) on the Chinese, who had deprived them last year of Olympic bronze at the Tokyo Games. In the men’s tournament, the French won the match for 3rd place against Belgium (18-17) after extra time despite the absence of Antoine Eito, injured in the left ankle during the semi-final loss against Lithuania on the same score and also in overtime.

It was Franck Seguela who freed his team against the Belgians by scoring the winning basket after six additional minutes.
